Montreal shooter Kimveer Gill claims he was “under surveillance by law enforcement”
September 14th, 2006
Just three days before Kimveer Gill opened fire on a crowd at Dawson College in Montreal, killing one and wounding 19, he wrote the following in his blog on the gothic website VampireFreaks.com (profile: fatality666):
I wonder why my household has been under surveillance by law enforcement for 6 years now? Makes no sense to me! [entry from September 10, 2006, 05:23am]
Kimveer Gill was clearly a deranged individual based on his journal entries, and seemed to be suffering from depression and alcoholism, referring to the consumption of whiskey numerous times.
But what did Kimveer Gill mean when he said he was “under surveillance by law enforcement”? Did law enforcement know about Kimveer’s unstable mental state? Was his household under surveillance because he and his family were Sikh? Had they been keeping a close watch on him for six years as Kimveer claims? If so, why didn’t they stop Kimveer from committing such a terrible act, killing a fellow student and wounding 19 before turning the gun on himself?
Lets clarify, some stories claim that Kimveer killed himself, others, like this one suggest he was gunned down by police.
Could the police have intentionally done nothing to prevent the shooting? Could they have even aggravated the situation by harassing Kimveer or his family? What would be their motivation to do so? Gun control, perhaps?
It certainly appears that way:
PM vows to introduce legislation to prevent another ‘Dawson’
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Stephen Harper said his government will work to develop legislation to prevent another tragedy such as the shooting rampage at a Montreal college Wednesday.
“We can obviously just observe that laws we have didn’t prevent this tragedy which is why our government will be in the future, because of this incident and many others, looking to make our laws more effective,” Harper told reporters Thursday. (more…)
Shooting reignites gun registry debate
Yesterday’s shootings at Dawson College in Montreal — the same city where a massacre at a university 17 years ago was the catalyst for gun control — is expected to add fuel to a contentious debate in Parliament over whether to scrap the gun registry. (more…)
Columbine was very helpful in the U.S. government’s intent to tighten gun control laws, and it now appears the Canadian government isn’t above playing politics just a day after a tragedy like this.
More on Kimveer’s journal entries:
I saved a copy of Kimveer’s journal entry where he claims to be under surveillance by law enforcement. I will upload it to disgrunt in the next couple days and link to it from this story.
UPDATE: It appears that VampireFreaks.com has taken down Kimveer’s profile.
UPDATE: Here is the journal entry.
