Resolution to investigate Foley blocked by Republican Congress (video)
October 2nd, 2006
Here is the video of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) introducing a resolution to investigate how long other Republicans knew about Mark Foley’s inappropriate behavior — Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) swiftly moves to have the resolution buried in the Ethics Committee. Pelosi is then shouted down when she attempts to motion for a recorded vote.
Parents want to ban ‘Fahrenheit 451′ (oh the irony!)
October 2nd, 2006
A Caney Creek High School dad is fired up because the Conroe Independent School District uses the book “Fahrenheit 451″ as classroom reading material.
Alton Verm, of Conroe, objects to the language and content in the book. His 15-year-old daughter Diana, a CCHS sophomore, came to him Sept. 21 with her reservations about reading the book because of its language.
Ok, I’m convinced, we need to start sterilizing parents — lets start with this idiot. (more…)
Tonight on ABC, investigative journalist Brian Ross suggested there may be other members of Congress who engaged in inappropriate behavior towards congressional pages:
BRIAN ROSS: So far, Foley is the only member whose overt sexual approaches have been documented. Charlie?
CHARLES GIBSON: The only one to be documented, but are there other shoes to drop?
ROSS: We’re hearing quite a bit from former pages. They’re sending us all sorts of messages about possible other members.
Told you there were more… (more…)

Are You an ‘Unlawful Combatant’?
October 2nd, 2006
Maybe so…
There has been a great deal of discussion about the Military Commissions Act of 2006 [.pdf], recently passed by both houses of Congress, and most of it has to do with the provisions allowing torture of alien detainees, that is, of non-citizens apprehended in, say, Afghanistan or Iraq, and their treatment at the hands of their American captors. Senators John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and John Warner, all Republicans, grandstanded for weeks over the torture provisions, then capitulated. Another “Republican maverick,” Arlen Specter, zeroed in on the real issue, however, when he said the bill would set us back 800 years by repealing the habeas corpus protections against arbitrary arrest and jailings – and then went ahead and voted for it, anyway. PredatorGate Cover-Up: Reynolds Confirms Hastert Involved, Kildee Confirms No Investigation Happened
October 2nd, 2006
At least four Republican House Members, one senior GOP aide and a former top officer of the House were aware of the allegations about Foley that prompted the initial reporting regarding his e-mail contacts with a 16-year-old House page. They include: Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Reynolds (N.Y.) and Reps. Rodney Alexander (R-La.) and John Shimkus (R-Ill.), as well as a senior aide to Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) and former Clerk of the House Jeff Trandahl.
Hastert has been denying he knew about the allegations — Boehner even got the WaPo to pull the quote he gave them yesterday, which is a story in itself — but after the latest statement by NRCC Chairman Tom Reynolds also stating that Hastert was informed, Hastert issued a statement neither disputing nor denying Reynolds’ statement: (more…)
Autopsy: No Arabs on Flight 77
October 2nd, 2006
I am an ex Naval line officer and a psychiatrist in private practice in New Orleans, a Christian and homeschool dad. It troubled me a great deal that we rushed off to war on the flimsiest of evidence. I considered various ways to provide a smoking gun of who and why Sept 11th happened. Astute observers noticed right away that there were no Arabic sounding names on any of the flight manifests of the planes that “crashed” on that day.
A list of names on a piece of paper is not evidence, but an autopsy by a pathologist, is. I undertook by FOIA request, to obtain that autopsy list and you are invited to view it below. Guess what? Still no Arabs on the list. (more…)

British documentary alleges pope linked to “child abuse cover-up”
October 2nd, 2006
A British documentary claimed that Pope Benedict XVI was implicated in the systematic cover-up of child sex abuse allegations against Catholic priests.
