Troops in Southeast Iraq Test U.S. Claim of Aid for Militias
ON THE IRAQ-IRAN BORDER — Since late August, British commandos in the deserts of far southeastern Iraq have been testing one of the most serious charges leveled by the United States against Iran: that Iran is secretly supplying weapons, parts, funding and training for attacks on U.S.-led forces in Iraq. Lieberman Queries Lamont Over Commitment to Israel
October 5th, 2006
Senator Joseph I. Lieberman questioned his opponent’s commitment to Israel at a fund-raiser in Manhattan yesterday, saying he had received important support from several Democrats who have been critical of Israel.
From WRH: Hey Joe. Look down. See that nation YOU ARE STANDING ON? That’s called the UNited States of America. If you are so worried about Israel kindly move there, because the US needs leaders who place America first, second, and third. All this argument about who cares the most about Israel only underscores your total lack of concern for the US. (more…)

Banks’ $7 Billion Tax-Exempt Bond Ruse Yields Nothing for Needy
October 5th, 2006
Pastor Willie Williams frowns as he approaches a 10-foot-high concrete wall that’s topped by spirals of barbed wire. On a steamy August morning in Pensacola, Florida, he’s entering the Oakwood Terrace apartments for low-income residents. Williams, 62, shakes his head as he passes an unmanned security station.
“It looks like a concentration camp,'’ he says.
The 300-apartment complex was on a list of developments that were eligible to benefit from $220 million in bonds issued by a public agency in 1999 to promote affordable housing in Florida. None of the money went to Oakwood Terrace. (more…)
Outrage as Misdirection: The Real Scandal Isn’t Foley
October 5th, 2006
It’s a sad commentary on the state of American democracy, on the instincts of the American citizenry, and on the standards and judgment of the American newsmedia that the unsavory advances of a pathetic Forida congressman can have the nation in high dudgeon, while the ramming through of a patently illegal piece of legislation undermining a crucial 13th century civil liberty (habeas corpus), and the Fourth and Eighth Amendments of the constitution, and the secret planning for an illegal and catastrophic attack on Iran, both merit almost no complaint or mention. Roll Call: Ex-FBI Chief to Head Page Probe
October 5th, 2006
From Roll Call:
Sources said Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) will announce today that former FBI Director Louis Freeh will oversee an investigation of the House page program, which has been rocked in recent days by the scandal surrounding resigned Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla.). Hastert is expected to hold a news conference in Illinois this afternoon.
From WRH:
Louis Freeh was named head of the FBI by Clinton and sworn in on the day of Vince Foster’s “suicide”, which the FBI was caught red-handed fabricating evidence in a cover-up of an obvious murder.
New Lows For Drudge: Playing the Foley Victim Card
October 5th, 2006
Are there no lows to which Drudge won’t stoop? The headline reads: “CLAIM: FILTHY FOLEY ONLINE MESSAGES WERE PAGE PRANK GONE AWRY.” Oh, really? You mean Foley didn’t ask about penis length? Or masturbation? Or wonder if he “made him a little horny?” (more…)
Visit Guantanamo Bay! Bring the Kids!
October 5th, 2006
Jim Angle sat in for Brit Hume during last night’s (10/4) “Special Report” and took the opportunity to use the “Two Minutes of Hate” segment (AKA “Grapevine”) to provide statistics to his viewers showing that inmates at Guantanamo Bay have increasingly been putting weight on, due to what he claimed was the diet being fed to them. He used this statistic in an attempt to provide a glowing view of the detention center, while wishing to silence critics that are worried about such “trivial” things as torture, due process and habeous corpus.

No Laughing Matter: Time-Warner Boots Comic for Lampooning Leader
October 5th, 2006
“Clowntime is over; time to take cover…”
– Elvis Costello
Ah, the ethos of the Leader-State officially ratified by Congress last week is spreading fast! Of course, the corporate media has long been sprawled prostrate on the floor in trembling obesiance to the Leader’s mighty mojo; indeed, the media’s craven but highly profitable complicity was a key factor in establishing our new “Unitary Executive States of America” in the first place. So it’s no real surprise to see Time-Warner — the quintessential MSM conglomerate — reacting with such efficent dispatch to the new dispensation. As the canned African-American comic, Paul Mooney, put it in this ringing Niemollerian phrase:
“My point is ever since 9/11, we lost all our rights. They’re practicing on the minorities, but when they get good at it they’re going to do it to the white folks.” (more…)
